Summary

When studious Nariyuki tutors two supergeniuses who are total dunces in their favorite subjects, he’ll get a crash course in love!

Nariyuki Yuiga comes from an impoverished family, so he’s eager to secure a full scholarship to college before he graduates high school。 His principal agrees, with one stipulation—he must tutor three of the most talented girls at school and make sure they get into their target colleges!

A few years after graduation, Nariyuki is now a full-fledged teacher about to begin his new job on a remote island。 As luck would have it, it’s the very same island where Asumi is now training to be a doctor! Is this coincidence or destiny?

Time for alternate ending #4! This volume contains the ending where Asumi Kominami (Senpai) was the one who touched hands with Yuiga during the fireworks WAY back in volume 8。Oh my gosh~! This one is so cute!! Yuiga is all grown up and he's got a job as a teacher and Kominami is all grown up and only a few years off of being a 100% certified doctor。 And they just happened to both get jobs on the same small town island。 Ah~! It reads like a Stardew Valley fanfiction (and vibes like Barakamon) and Time for alternate ending #4! I just can't get enough of this series。 Sad that we have only one volume left。。。Who will it be in the final volume? Sister (gawd I hope not)? Sensei? My bets on Kirisu-sensei, but that's kinda a no-no, too。 I kinda hope the final volume is Yuiga and Takemoto further down the road - married, a couple kids, with both working at their Alma Matter, he as homeroom teacher, she as the swimming team coach。 And I'll saying again。。。 where is that teased We Never Learn X Yuuna and the Haunted Hotsprings c I just can't get enough of this series。 Sad that we have only one volume left。。。Who will it be in the final volume? With the fourth variation upon us, Nariyuki and Asumi meet up after years apart and kohai-jinx ensue。 Asumi still loves to tease Nariyuki mercilessly as he works as a school teacher, but could there be a reason that Asumi never let him get close?I have to admit that this is the best We Never Learn! has been in ages。 Asumi was always a strong character because her teasing made her actions a lot more forward than the other girls’ “casual accidents lead to some smattering of romance” angle and she’ With the fourth variation upon us, Nariyuki and Asumi meet up after years apart and kohai-jinx ensue。 Asumi still loves to tease Nariyuki mercilessly as he works as a school teacher, but could there be a reason that Asumi never let him get close?I have to admit that this is the best We Never Learn! has been in ages。 Asumi was always a strong character because her teasing made her actions a lot more forward than the other girls’ “casual accidents lead to some smattering of romance” angle and she’s lost none of her touch, plus her longer hair suits her character design perfectly。In addition to closing the story off, this tale brings in a fun little bit on how tough it is being the newcomer to a tight-knit community and the mangaka gets an awful lot of mileage from the few students in Nariyuki’s blended class to mostly strong effect (more on the not-so-much part later)。The long-simmering plot here ends up involving Asumi’s dad once again (he has, by far, the funniest visual in the entire volume) and drags in some good pulls from the previous volumes and a surprisingly poignant turn that would have been obvious in retrospect。 Other ‘what-if’ stories have tied into the past, but this one does it in a shockingly smart way。Romance-wise, you could do far worse than investigating what happens when you tease somebody endlessly about your non-feelings for one another and then those feelings become a little more real than they were supposed to。 Between that and Nariyuki’s work teaching it’s a pretty cute story for these two。The climax is extremely dramatic, but the mini-climax beforehand, which involves a somewhat frantic chase in the rain, is absolutely gorgeous。 I do not compliment the art in this series very often, it’s typically quite good, but it outdid itself here。 Sure it all ends up going way over the top, but that’s this series for you, and it ties in the ways Nariyuki did what he did best for Asumi, which is teach her things。Of course, the story is at its weakest when it attempts to go for the harem jokes and boob comedy that have been its staple。 There should be a national law in Japan against hot springs scenes in manga, with doubled penalties for the guy nearly drowning while hiding。It doesn’t help when it’s perilously close to crossing a line with the art being very, uh, generous to one of Nariyuki’s teenage students who happens to have a crush on him。 It doesn’t go as far as usual, which is a blessing, but there were definitely a couple of collar tugging moments。There’s probably something to be said about the fact that, of the four variations we’ve seen so far, the best story involves a character added much farther along in the series。 With just Mafuyu left, promising a wild ride of its own, hopefully it closes out on a strong note。3。5 stars - I never would have thought it, but when this one’s hitting the mark it hits it really well。 No rounding up, it’s still too eye-rolling at times for that, but better than expected, which was a nice surprise。 。。。more
